As per a CNN report, leaked files were made public on the Discord server at the beginning of the previous month. The sensitive documents revealed crucial intel on the number of Russian casualties and the weaponry systems currently accessible to Ukraine.

Approximately one week after the revelation that multiple classified documents from US security agencies had been disclosed on the internet, the FBI took into custody a 21-year-old employee of a military base for allegedly leaking the files.

Jack Teixeira arrested by FBI accused of leaking US military Secret Documents

Jack Teixeira, serving as an airman 1st class at Otis Air National Guard Base located in Massachusetts, was apprehended "associated with a probe into purported illicit elimination, retention, and transmission of classified national defense info," as expressed by Attorney General Merrick Garland. Teixeira was taken into custody at a North Dighton, Massachusetts residence.

Numerous classified US military documents have been leaked and made available online, causing concern among national security agencies. These documents, labeled as "Secret" and "Top Secret," disclosed information about US surveillance of Russian military and intelligence agencies, as well as details about the US spying on its allies, including South Korea. The leak was considered a severe risk to national security by the Pentagon.

The documents were initially shared in an exclusive Discord server a few months ago, where over 350 documents were reportedly shared over time, with some documents being as recent as an update on the Russia-Ukraine war on March 1, 2023. The leak eventually reached mainstream social media platforms like Discord and Telegram after being shared on a few other Discord groups, leading to a significant investigation into the breach of US security.

The suspect is Jack Douglas Teixeira, an airman working as a cyber transport systems specialist stationed at the Otis Air National Guard Base in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Teixeira was arrested after an investigation into the unauthorized removal, retention, and transmission of classified national defense information. He was picked up from a residence in North Dighton, Massachusetts.

Teixeira's family has a history of military service, with his stepfather retiring after 34 years of service at the same base where Teixeira was employed, according to a report by the Cape Cod Times. The report also stated that Teixeira's stepbrother is currently employed at the base, citing Teixeira's step-uncle.

According to members of the private Discord server, Teixeira's motive for sharing the documents was to educate his like-minded friends as he considered himself a patriot. His friends claim that he did not intend to leak the documents to the public and had shared them with his online community to keep them informed. Some members of the online group, including one identified as Vahki, have stated that Teixeira "just wanted to inform some of his friends about what's going on". It is worth noting that Teixeira's actions are not being compared to those of US whistleblowers Edward Snowden and Chelsea Manning.

According to one of Teixeira’s friends in the online group, Teixeira seemed agitated during their last conversation. The friend said that Teixeira expressed regret over the situation and appeared to be distressed. Teixeira reportedly said, “I never wanted it to get like this. I prayed to God that this would never happen. And I prayed and prayed and prayed. Only God can decide what happens from now on”.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has stated that Teixeira will be charged with a crime under the Espionage Act for the unauthorized removal and transmission of classified national defense information. The FBI has arrested Teixeira without incident and has released a statement saying that they are committed to identifying, pursuing, and holding accountable those who betray the country's trust and put national security at risk. The specific consequences of the charges will depend on the outcome of the legal proceedings.

The leaked documents revealed several significant pieces of information related to various countries and conflicts. They provided insights into the Russia-Ukraine war and suggested that infighting within the Russian government was more significant than previously thought.

The documents also detailed Serbia's agreement to supply arms to Ukraine, which the country's Defense Minister has dismissed as untrue. Additionally, the documents contained details about Ukrainian air strikes, air defense vulnerabilities, and the size of some military units.

They also included descriptions of outreach efforts by the Russian mercenary group, the Wagner Group, to various countries, including Turkey, Haiti, and Mali.

The documents also covered updates related to Iran's nuclear activities and the United Arab Emirates' talks with Russia to build a maintenance center for some weapons.

Furthermore, the leaked information included predictions about how China would respond to Ukrainian strikes inside Russia, British plans in the Indo-Pacific region, and missile tests by North Korea.

Lastly, the documents contained information about Brazilian officials' plans to visit Moscow in April to discuss a Ukraine mediation scheme and an assessment that France would likely struggle to achieve its security goals in the west and Central Africa.
